Visualizing Aggregated Cancer Outcomes Data
ICISS is a center within the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center that specializes in providing data support and web-based tools for cancer outcomes research. One of our current projects involves developing an interface for selecting variables and visualizing them in different ways using maps and/or charts, depending on the stratification selected.
Technology Involved
The system is built on a Linux machine running Apache Server. Data is stored in Oracle and saved and retrieved using stored procedures for added security and reliability. The backend programming language is PHP, although that is used primarily for exchanging data back and forth between the server and the client. The front end is heavily reliant on JavaScript.
Sample Visualizations
Because access to the system is currently restricted to UNC users, below I have provided some sample screenshots to demonstrate the results of the two stratification and visualization selections.
